W95.HybrisF Fix Tool
The W95.HybrisF Fix tool will repair the infection caused by W95.HybrisF. To use it, download and extract the tool, and then run it at a DOS prompt.
NOTE: This removal tool only works to remove the specific plugin named W95.Hybrisf. It will not clean up a system infected by the W95.Hybris.plugin, W95.Hybris.gen or W95.Hybris.worm
To download and extract the tool:
NOTE: This file is in .zip format. You will need to use a zip program such as PKZip or WinZip to extract the tool before you can use it.
- Download fixhybf.zip to a folder on your hard drive.
- Unzip the downloaded file to a location on the hard drive. For ease of use, we recommend the root of drive C.
To run the tool:
To use the tool, the computer must restarted in MS-DOS mode. It does not work correctly in a DOS window in Windows.
- Restart the computer to a command prompt:
- Click Start and click Shut Down. The Shut Down Windows dialog box appears.
- Click Restart, and then click Yes. Windows will shut down, and the computer will restart.
- When "Starting Windows 95..." appears on the screen, press F8. The Windows 95 Startup Menu appears.
- Select "Command Prompt only," and press Enter.
- Windows 98 to a command prompt:
- Click Start, and click Shut Down. The Shut Down Windows dialog box appears.
- Click Restart, and then click OK. Windows will shut down, and the computer will restart.
- As the computer restarts, press and hold down the Ctrl key until the Windows 98 Startup Menu appears.
NOTE: On some computers, a keyboard error or other error may appear during restart as you hold down the Ctrl key. If so, follow the prompts to press a key to continue (for example, the message may prompt you to press the Esc key); then immediately press the Ctrl key again.
- Select "Command Prompt only," and press Enter.
- Change to the directory in which you unzipped Fixhybf.zip. If you unzipped it to the root of drive C, skip to the next step.
- Type the following, and then press Enter:
fixhybf [PATH]
(where [PATH] represents the drive or directory to be scanned).
As an alternative to specifying a path, to scan all drives except for floppies (recommended), type:
fixhybf /a
The scan will take approximately 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the size of the hard disk.
- After the scan is completed, some statistics will be displayed. These may vary, but will be in the following format:
Scanned: XX, infected: XX, repaired: XX
In most cases, all infected files will be repaired.
